School Review: Yale University

A famous institution indeed, Yale is one of those colleges everyone secretly dreams about going to. I'll admit, I would love to go to Yale. But then again there are some things I don't think I would love about the school.

Pros:

Yale is one of the most respected and, well, one of the best universities in the world. It's an *Ivy* and pretty much everyone knows about the school. The education one could get there is top of the line, and the opportunities afterward are great.

Beautiful campus! It's a really old school and a lot of the buildings are ancient. I love old architecture, so I was a big fan of what I saw at Yale.

All of the necessary shops and restaurants are close to campus. Grabbing Starbucks before class would definitely be an option for a Yale student!

Cons:

I didn't get to explore too much of it, but I wasn't a huge fan of the New Haven I was exposed to. It just didn't seem like the greatest place to live.

The people at Yale seemed very cold. There was some sort of summer camp for high schoolers going on when I was on campus and all of the kids seemed... just plain unfriendly. Maybe it was because I wasn't dressed in khakis and a polo like the majority of them, but for whatever reason the people on campus didn't seem like the kind of people I'd want to spend four years with.

Overall:

Yale is one of those dream schools. If I could do it, I'd love to go to school there. It's a bit far-fetched, however.

School Review: New York University

I've always been really torn when it comes to NYU, and after visiting the school I'm more conflicted than ever.

Pros:

NYC. As I said in my Columbia review, I'm in love with New York. There are endless opportunities in the city and it's one of the most diverse places in the world. The fact that it's, well, in New York has always been the biggest draw of NYU in my case.

The particular neighborhood NYU is in, Greenwich Village, is very artsy and neat. There's also a beautiful park right next to the school.

It definitely wouldn't be hard to make friends at NYU. Even if by some miracle a student there didn't get along with any of his or her 20,000 classmates, there are eight million other people right outside the door.

The food in NYC! There's so much! So many options!

Shopping!

Cons:

All of those things I've mentioned would be pretty distracting.

Housing in NYC is notoriously expensive and, in most cases, small. I'm not sure what the exact situation is at NYU, but I can't imagine it's the best housing available.

The NYU campus didn't feel like a campus at all. NYU is very intertwined with the surrounding area and instead of having a separate area exclusively for NYU, there are just buildings within the neighborhood that are NYU buildings. I feel like if I went to college somewhere I'd want it to feel like I had a tangible campus, even if it's in a big city.

Nearby park.

Fountain in nearby park. Pretty sure this is a relatively famous monument.

Overall:

As much as I love NYC, I'm not sure if going to school there would be the best for me. NYU is a well-respected school, but I wasn't a fan of the "campus." But I love NYC! I'm torn.
